After a dream start to the season: Leipzig is at the top

RB Leipzig has prolonged the best start in its young club history and has taken the lead in the German Bundesliga with a win in the top match against Freiburg. Champions Leverkusen, on the other hand, could only manage a 2-2 draw in Bremen after twice taking the lead.

With 20 points, Leipzig currently leads the table three points ahead of Bayern Munich. The record champions are visiting last-placed Bochum on Sunday. The Bulls only turned things around against Freiburg (15) after a sluggish first half. Willi Orban (47th) equalized Freiburg's deserved lead through Ritsu Doan (15th), Lutsharel Geertruida (58th) converted a slipped ball to make it 2-1. Lois Openda secured the win after a through ball from Andre Silva (79th). Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi first celebrated a new club record without conceding a goal (510 Bundesliga minutes), but later had to be substituted due to an injury.

Werder Bremen showed particular morale against the reigning champions from Leverkusen. Werder came back from behind twice. Marvin Ducksch (74th) equalized the Leverkusen lead through Victor Boniface (30th). Felix Agu scored an unfortunate own goal shortly afterwards (77th). But Romano Schmid saved a point for the ninth-placed team with his goal in the 90th minute.

Dortmund struggles in the distance

Dortmund is already seven points behind the top of the table. Borussia have only picked up one point in four away games (before that against Bremen, Stuttgart and in Berlin). Marcel Sabitzer's team also had no joy against Augsburg, despite a lightning start with a goal from Donyel Malen (5th). Augsburg turned the game around thanks to Alexis Claude-Maurice (25th, 50th). Nuri Sahin's team is already under pressure in the second round of the cup in Wolfsburg. Before the Champions League home game against Sturm Graz (2th November), BVB will host Leipzig.

Stuttgart beat Kiel 2-1, even with a slight Champions League rotation. The Swabians improved to eighth place thanks to goals from Deniz Undav (19th) and El Bilal Toure (61st). Newly promoted Kiel, led by Benedikt Pichler (until the 46th), came close after a yellow-red card for Stuttgart's Julian Chabot (66th). Armin Gigovic ensured a hot final phase (84th), in which Kiel's Jann-Fiete Arp also saw yellow-red (88th).
