Reus after move to USA: “Europe was out of the question”

After leaving the Bundesliga, Marco Reus also sees a comfortable living environment at his new Los Angeles Galaxy.

"Living here isn't so bad either. That was also a big factor in me being able to imagine the move so quickly," the 35-year-old offensive player told the TV station Sky.

The Major League Soccer club announced on Thursday that Reus has signed a contract until the end of the 2026 season. He is to be presented in Los Angeles today during the German evening.

Reus did not want to stay in the Bundesliga or in Europe

The former national player had not received a new contract after twelve years at Borussia Dortmund. This meant that he was able to move to the USA on a free transfer. "I knew that I definitely did not want to stay in the Bundesliga. And to be honest, Europe was not an option for me either, because I wanted to do something completely different 'at the end of my career,'" said Reus. He wanted the opportunity to be noticed somewhere else, to continue his education and to see a different horizon. "I came into contact with LA Galaxy very, very early on and I liked the discussions straight away," he said, explaining his move to California.

Nevertheless, Reus admitted that he would miss the Bundesliga and especially the Dortmund stadium. "If you have been able to play in front of 80.000 spectators for so long... that is something you will miss forever. No other stadium in the world is as loud. No other stadium has as many people," said the two-time German Footballer of the Year. In the Bundesliga, you always had your support behind you, even when you played away.
