Barça's return to Camp Nou postponed again

FC Barcelona will have to wait even longer to return to Camp Nou.

The Spanish top football club's stadium has been undergoing modernization since summer 2023, and its inauguration has already been postponed several times. Now the club has announced that the Joan Gamper Trophy match on August 10 will not take place at Camp Nou. Instead, it will be played at the 6.000-capacity Estadi Johan Cruyff.

"Due to the extent of the work carried out," it was impossible to "fulfill all the requirements of the licensing regulations," even for a sector-by-sector restoration of operations, Barcelona said on Saturday. According to the newspaper "La Vanguardia," the first phase of the work, which includes the basement and the first and second tiers, is not yet complete.

Since no new date for a return to Camp Nou is yet in sight, the possibility of playing at the Estadi Lluís Companys again next season is even being considered. Home games have been played there since the move.
