Clásico drama: Barça wins the Super Cup against Real Madrid

FC Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup in a spectacular Clásico against Real Madrid.

Barcelona defeated their arch-rivals 3-2 in a thrilling final held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. For German coach Hansi Flick, it was his fourth title with Barça. The previous season, the former national team coach had also won the Super Cup, the league title, and the Spanish Cup.

Raphinha (36th minute) had put Barcelona in the lead, before things got highly turbulent in first-half stoppage time: Vinícius Júnior (45+2) first equalized for Real, former Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski (45+4) immediately scored to put Barça back in the lead – but Gonzalo García (45+6) put the final touch on the first half with the 2-2.

In the second half, Barça, as in much of the first 45 minutes, had more possession. After Raphinha (73') scored his second goal to give his team their third lead, Real, despite their best efforts, couldn't find a way back into the game. Even the late red card for Barça's Frenkie de Jong (90+1) after a reckless foul on substitute Kylian Mbappé didn't change the outcome.
