Until 2031: Mega contract for super talent Yamal

According to a media report, super talent Lamine Yamal is on the verge of signing a long-term extension with Spanish football champions FC Barcelona.

The 17-year-old Spaniard is expected to sign a contract with the Catalans until the summer of 2031, according to US television channel ESPN. According to the report, Yamal's agent, Jorge Mendes, and Barcelona club president Joan Laporta met on Monday and agreed in principle on a shared future.

Yamal's current contract expires in June 2026. His market value is estimated at €180 million. This puts Yamal in the top echelons of world football—along with Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Kylian Mbappé, and Jude Bellingham (both Real Madrid).

The Spanish star striker will turn 18 in July this year. He signed his last contract with Barça in 2023 – at that time, only a three-year term was possible because Yamal was just 15 years old.

The youngster's salary is expected to increase dramatically with the new contract. Yamal will also be able to benefit from several bonus payments. The striker joined FC Barcelona at the age of five and subsequently progressed through the youth ranks. In the summer of 2024, he won the European Championship with Spain as a regular starter and key player.
