Tottenham part ways with Postecoglou, Gasperini to Roma

The English football club Tottenham Hotspur has parted ways with coach Ange Postecoglou, just over two weeks after winning the Europa League. The club announced this on its website.

"Ange will always be remembered as only the third coach in our history to win a European title," it said. "However, the board has unanimously concluded that a move is in the best interests of the club."

Worst Premier League season in club history

Under the Australian coach, Tottenham had won their first title in 17 years. Spurs beat league rivals Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final. However, the team had a disastrous season in the Premier League, finishing 17th—one place above the relegation zone.

Many ups and downs

With 22 defeats in 38 games, it was the worst Premier League season in the club's history. By winning the Europa League, the team still qualified for the Champions League. Postecoglou, who joined from Celtic two years ago, recently emphasized that he would like to continue. However, there will be no future for the 59-year-old at the North London club.

Meanwhile, former Southampton coach Ivan Juric joined Atalanta Bergamo. Gian Piero Gasperini, the Bergamo club's longtime coach, signed with league rivals AS Roma. Juric was sacked by Roma last season.
