Late cheers: Manchester City jump to third place

On their way to the Champions League, Manchester City gained valuable points in the very last minute.

Coach Pep Guardiola's team narrowly won the head-to-head clash with Aston Villa 2-1 (1-1) thanks to Matheus Nunes, jumping to third place in the Premier League. Portuguese Nunes scored the celebrated winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Bernardo Silva had scored an early lead in the 7th minute, which was initially countered by England international Marcus Rashford (18th/penalty). City (61 points) and Villa (57) are in the thick of the Champions League race. Thanks to a strong international season, the Premier League has five guaranteed starting places for Europe's most prestigious club competition.

Marmoush's goal does not count

Liverpool (79) is certainly in the running, and Arsenal (66) are also hard to displace. Behind them, Nottingham (60), Newcastle United (59), and Chelsea (57) are also competing with the two Champions League participants who faced off at the Ethiad Stadium on Tuesday.

City and Villa have even played one more game than any of their opponents since the evening. Former Frankfurt player Omar Marmoush's supposed winning goal for the hosts (80th minute) was ruled out for offside. But Nunes saved the day for Guardiola and his team.
