Investigation against Vidal on suspicion of sexual assault

In Chile, football star Arturo Vidal is being investigated on charges of sexual assault. The investigation was initiated following a complaint against the former Bayern Munich player and teammates at his current Chilean club Colo Colo.

The public prosecutor's office in Santiago announced this on Monday. No one has been arrested so far. It was not clear which of Vidal's teammates were also affected by the investigation.

According to Chilean media, the attack occurred in the early hours of Monday morning in a nightclub in Santiago, where a group of Colo Colo players were celebrating a birthday. Police chief Gerardo Aravena said that 37-year-old Vidal was taken to a police station to establish his identity.

Vidal played for Bayer Leverkusen from 2007 to 2011 and then moved to Juventus Turin. From there he moved to Bayern Munich in 2015 for a transfer fee of almost 40 million euros. Vidal played for Bayern for three years. His later clubs included FC Barcelona and Inter Milan. Vidal scored 34 goals in 142 games for the Chilean national team.
