Roma, Porto & Co: Top clubs pull their heads out of the noose

The final of the Europa League one day later was just as exciting as the Champions League on Wednesday. Some well-known clubs managed to pull themselves out of trouble on the last matchday of the league phase.

Fenerbahce, Porto, Twente and AS Roma were under a lot of pressure before the last matchday of the Europa League phase. In the end, however, these teams at least made it into the playoffs for the round of 16, which will be drawn in Nyon at noon on Friday.

Besiktas, Hoffenheim (despite a 4:3 victory over Anderlecht) and Braga were eliminated. The Portuguese needed help, but this did not happen. The 1:0 victory over league phase winners Lazio did not help much. The Romans, on the other hand, remain in first place despite the defeat. Athletic Club finished the league phase level on points with Lazio.

Other top clubs such as Manchester United, Tottenham, Frankfurt and Olympique Lyon are also in the round of 1. The Norwegians from Bödö/Glimt narrowly missed out on that, with a 1:XNUMX draw against Nice, who had already been eliminated, proving their undoing. Anderlecht, Steaua Bucharest and Galatasaray also lost their place in the round of XNUMX on Thursday evening and now have to go into the playoffs.
