The days of the Odegar Stadium in Asiago are numbered.

For 27 million: Asiago plans new arena

The vexed stadium issue in Asiago is gaining momentum: There's now a project and funding for the construction of a state-of-the-art arena. With this, the current AlpsHL club aims to put itself back on the international ice hockey map.

The plan is in place: The Stadio Odegar has served its purpose, and Asiago is getting a new arena. A feasibility study funded by HC Asiago has now been submitted and approved. It envisions a complete reconstruction of the aging and recently only sparsely renovated Odegar. The cost: €27 million.

The Italian Ice Hockey Federation (FISG) recently increased pressure on HC Asiago to finally address the stadium issue. This was also a major reason why the Stellati were kicked out of the ICE Hockey League in the spring and have since moved down to the Alps Hockey League.

The costs for the new stadium will be borne by the FISG, the Veneto region, and a municipal fund. The plan is to build a state-of-the-art arena with a larger spectator capacity (the most recent capacity was 2200), a second ice rink, a gymnasium, and additional multi-purpose facilities. This will secure the future of ice hockey in one of Italy's most historic venues.
