Juhani Matikainen will now be behind the bench for the Cavaliers. "At 34 years old, the Finnish native combines valuable experience from a long playing career with his previous work as a coach," the club wrote in a press release on Friday. Matikainen, whose playing career has taken him from Finland to Austria and Sweden to the United Arab Emirates, has gained experience as a coach at various clubs in recent years.
He took his first steps in the 2016/17 season with the United Arab Emirates women's national team before moving to Alleghe in Italy. There, he initially coached the youth team between 2017 and 2021 before taking over the senior team. He then moved to Kiruna in Sweden and EV Füssen in Germany, where he was released in December 2024 due to a lack of results.
In addition to this important signing, the Cavaliers, who missed qualifying for the playoffs last season, also have a departure to report. Latvian Daniels Murnieks is leaving the club for France, where he will now play for Gap in the Ligue Magnus.
