Incredible own goal: Faux pas by Gröden striker
The match between the Wipptal Broncos and HC Gherdëina ended in a turbulent 6-5 victory for the Broncos after a penalty shootout. The wild course of the game, as well as an extremely unfortunate own goal (from minute 1:48), provided plenty of talking points.

Vlastimil Dostalek played a major role in the Furie's title win last year. Signed in December, the Czech player became a key player for HCG, racking up 42 points in 35 games. In the playoffs, Dostalek was the league's top scorer with 13 goals. Ironically, he became the tragic figure on Thursday evening in Sterzing.
When a penalty was called against Damiano Tirelli at the start of the second period, goaltender Cody Porter left the ice for an extra attacker. This is normally a safe move, as the referees will stop play as soon as an opposing player gets hold of the puck. However, what followed left many fans in disbelief.
No single case
Dostalek attempted a back pass to his defenseman to restart the attack. However, this attempt failed completely, and the puck trickled into the unguarded Val Gardena net. Visibly frustrated and visibly annoyed, Dostalek then proceeded to shred his puck. At least he redeemed himself later that same period, scoring to make it 4-5.© Robin Bernardi
While own goals are extremely rare, there have been several examples in the past: At the 2017 World Championship, Alexander Egger stumbled and pushed the puck over his own goal line. NHL superstar Patrick Kane suffered the same mishap in 2014 – back then, he even scored from the opponent's goal line into his own net.
Incidentally: Because there are no own goals in ice hockey on paper, the goal was awarded to Mattia Covelli, who was the last Wipptal player to touch the puck.
