After its application for admission to the ICE Hockey League (ICEHL) was rejected, everything indicated that the newly founded Hockey Club Asiago would have to start from scratch in the Italian Hockey League (IHL). A week ago, the club reversed course. Asiago was strongly interested in the AlpsHL and would be the 14th team in the upcoming season – provided it receives the OK from the Italian Ice Hockey Federation (FISG). This happened in recent days, which is why Asiago officially announced its participation in the AlpsHL on Friday.
"It is an honor for us to continue the history of hockey in Asiago. Although the AlpsHL is a step backwards compared to the ICEHL, it represents a good starting point," said President Mario Lievore of 7 Community Online cited.
The stadium remains a problem
"The team we want to build will consist largely of local players. Our goal isn't to win titles. Instead, we want to encourage our players to develop and achieve ever-better results." However, anyone familiar with the club from the plateau knows: The Stellati always want to be at the top. Therefore, even with limited financial resources, a competitive team can be expected. One question mark remains, however. Much-needed renovation work is currently underway at the Hodegart. It's not yet certain that it will be completed by mid-September, when the new season begins. "The work is necessary for safety. The weather is a major variable, but we'll be working on the front lines to get everything finished on time," says sports assessor Franco Sella.
