"A deserved defeat": Val Gardena's losing streak continues unabated

HC Gherdëina's slump in the Alps Hockey League continues. After announcing the departure of coach Teppo Kivelä on Saturday morning, the Ladin team suffered another defeat just a few hours later.

The Wipptal Broncos dispatched the struggling Gröden team 6-2 at their home stadium, Pranives. HC Gherdëina has now gone 42 days without a win, which translates to six consecutive losses. "You can't perform like that at home. We made far too many mistakes, too many wrong decisions. The defeat is deserved," said a disappointed Stephan Deluca after the match against the Wipptal Broncos.

Davide Conci, who scored twice for the visitors from Sterzing, commented: “We played very well for over 50 minutes. The overtime win against Jesenice allowed us to break the downward spiral. This was a very important victory today in Val Gardena.” The coaching situation will be a priority for the Furie in the coming days. The Finn Kivelä was released after the defeat against Unterland. Elmar Parth was on the bench in the match against Sterzing.

Unterland loses at home against Kitzbühel

Unterland also needs a new coach, where Tuomo Harjula is currently serving as interim manager. The former Cavaliers assistant coach saw a committed performance from his team against Kitzbühel. In the end, however, the North Tyroleans still won 4-1. "The first period made the difference. We rallied after that and played a good game. We're struggling to score goals, but we're working hard on it, and I'm sure it will come with time," said Unterland player Laurin Foppa.

The Ritten Buam secured another victory on Saturday, seemingly breaking free from their losing streak. The South Tyrolean team defeated Cortina 3-0 at home in an entertaining and hard-fought game. Felicetti opened the scoring in the 16th minute after a perfectly weighted pass from Alderson. The second period started perfectly: Kevin Fink deflected a shot from Madsen just 27 seconds in to make it 2-0. Cuglietta sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the 60th minute. "It was an important victory. We will build on this and continue to give our best," said Fink after the game.
