Merano suddenly transformed – Broncos run stopped
All 5 South Tyrolean AlpsHL teams were in action on Thursday. In Merano, Christian Borgatello sparked new euphoria, while things looked very different in Val Gardena. In addition, the Wipptal Valley's run of success has come to an end.

After the freestyle against league leader Zell am See, HC Meran has also fulfilled its duty. New head coach Christian Borgatello and his team were able to secure a victory in their second appearance. In the home game against EC Bregenzerwald, HCM was behind at the break of the first period, but then Skate Skalde turned the game around with two power play goals. Meran did not give up the lead - on the contrary. Daniel Gellon and Jakob Fuchs each scored for the Eagles.
In Neumarkt, the Unterland Cavaliers made a big statement in the battle for the Master Round. The South Tyroleans clearly and deservedly defeated Kitzbühel 5:2 thanks to a cool-headed utilization of opportunities. Unterland goalie Tizian Giovanelli, with a strong save rate of 93,1 percent, played a decisive role in ensuring that only two of Kitzbühel's 29 shots on goal went in.
Sterzing's upward trend stopped
The Wipptal Broncos' run of success has been halted, at least temporarily. The Sterzing team really turned things up in the weeks before the international break and came significantly closer to the master round. On Thursday, however, there was a (small) setback. In the duel with the Zeller Eisbären, the Broncos suffered a 3:5 defeat in front of their home crowd - but of course that can happen against the league leaders.Winning goal scorer for Ritten: Markus Spinell. © Max Pattis
The top duel between Cortina and the Rittner Buam was only decided in overtime. This was fitting for the nerve-wracking duel, because Cortina's Gregory Di Tomaso had shot the home team into overtime 9 seconds (!) before the final whistle. It already looked like a penalty shootout would take place before Markus Spinell scored the winning goal for the Buam.HC Gröden remains at the bottom of the table. The Ladinians stood up to the top team Jesenice until the end, but ultimately had to admit defeat with 2:3.
