Fan hero and bad boy: Pustertal can continue to rely on him

HC Pustertal has made the next important personnel decision and has secured one of its absolute star players for the coming season.

Just a few days after Eddie Pasquale was confirmed as HCP goalkeeper, Mikael Frycklund's stay in Bruneck is also assured. The Italian-Swede, who will play for the Azzurri at the B World Cup in Romania starting Sunday, had already included an option in his contract last summer. Now both sides have agreed to continue working together.

Frycklund will begin his third season with HC Pustertal at the end of September. Over the past two seasons, he has been the most consistent and popular striker on the HCP squad. In his debut year, the center collected 55 points in 34 appearances, and most recently, he collected 49 points in 30 appearances. This means that the 31-year-old Scandinavian with Italian roots has also earned a spot on the Italian national team.

However, the 1,90-meter-tall Frycklund not only captivates Brunico's ice hockey fans with his elegant skating style, puck handling, and scoring skills, but also inspires them with his passion. Frycklund is someone who stirs up trouble and also likes to dish out some punishment. With 75 penalty minutes, he was the Wolves' top penalty scorer, behind Cedric Lacroix (114 minutes).

In Bruneck, Frycklund has enjoyed hero status since February 15 of this year, when he scored the Wolves' first derby win of the season in overtime against Bolzano, and then broke the deadlock with his exuberant celebration. HCP fans can hope for such important goals again next winter.

"I love playing for HC Pustertal. Bruneck has become a second home to me," Frycklund is quoted as saying by the club. "I can't wait to start the new season with all of you and I'm really excited to come back and play in front of you Pustertal fans again."
