HCP snaps up Italy's World Cup rising star

HC Pustertal announced its first defensive signing on Wednesday. The transfer is no surprise, given that the new defender impressed with Italy's performance at the recent World Cup.

Greg Di Tomaso (29) is a new player for HC Pustertal. The Wolves announced this on Wednesday afternoon. The Italian-Canadian, who has impressed with Cortina in the Alps Hockey League over the past three years, will wear jersey number 77 in Bruneck.

Right-handed shooter Di Tomaso made a name for himself in Cortina as a complete defender who also has his advantages on offense. "He's a real eye-catcher in terms of skating technique; he will certainly help us on the power play," said HCP coach Jason Jaspers, looking forward to the newcomer. "Above all, we were impressed by his attitude, his hunger, and his desire to prove himself and improve," Jaspers continued.

Via Cortina to the ICE

Di Tomaso, born in Toronto on March 12, 1996, came to the ECHL via the OHL and college hockey. After a season in South Carolina, he made the jump across the pond to Cortina in 2022. After solid years in the AlpsHL and a strong World Championship in Romania (he was one of the best Azzurri ever) that culminated in Di Tomaso and the Blue Team's promotion to the elite group, the Bruneck chapter begins this summer.

"I'm really looking forward to it. I will work hard every day to improve and help the team have a successful season. I can't wait to play in front of the Rienzkurve and experience the atmosphere in the Intercable Arena," Di Tomaso said in an initial statement.
