The HC Pustertal (in black and yellow) won against the KAC.

Like a different team: HC Pustertal is alive again

The HC Pustertal is back: The Wolves sent a strong sign of life on Sunday evening against runner-up Klagenfurt.

Almost 2.000 spectators witnessed the best HCP performance of the season on Sunday evening in Bruneck. The second third was particularly outstanding. In the end, HC Pustertal beat Klagenfurter AC 6:3 and thus redeemed itself for the semi-final sweep in the last playoff.

In the seventh game of the season, HC Pustertal finally managed to secure its second win. This was extremely important – also for the minds. Just 48 hours earlier, the mood had been at rock bottom after the 2:4 defeat against Black Wings Linz. Several South Tyroleans became the match winners against KAC.

Andy Bernard was in the Wolves' goal for the first time this year after his illness and did a good job. The outstanding man on this evening, however, was Tommy Purdeller. The 20-year-old moved back to Pustertal from the USA in the summer. With two goals and an assist, Purdeller was the man of the match. Above all, his body language and his commitment are outstanding for his young age. Fabian Gschliesser, also 20, scored his first goal in the ICE Hockey League.

The highlights

KAC double strikeTowards the end of the first period, Schwinger scores to make it 1-0 for KAC. Bernard, who had previously made strong saves, doesn't look his best. Bischofberger then scores on the power play to make it 2-0 for Klagenfurt.
HCP like crazy!Last year's top scorer scored the 1:2 in the first minute of the second period. Just over a minute later, the Intercable Arena was really up in arms for the first time: Purdeller shot and Gschliesser scored to make it 2:2. Towards the end of the middle period, Purdeller (after a face-off) and just a few seconds later Mantinger (after a pass from Frycklund) put the HCP 4:2 ahead. An incredible 20 minutes for HC Pustertal!
FreezingSchwinger brings the KAC back into the game right at the start of the final third. But Purdeller and Coulter (with a shot into the top corner) make the final decision in the Intercable Arena.

Not only the HCP, but HC Bozen also rehabilitated itself for Friday with a win on Sunday. For Pustertal, things continue on Friday: Then they will play away against champions Salzburg.
