Wild West Match: The South Tyroleans make Pustertal cheer
That's what you call a reaction: HC Pustertal hit back strongly against Vienna just 24 hours after their defeat in Székesfehérvár. The South Tyroleans pulled the cart out of the mud once again.

A whopping 82 penalty minutes, two match penalties, numerous rough actions and the odd "cuddle" on the ice: Vienna and Pustertal played a wild ice hockey match on Saturday evening. With a happy ending for the guests from Bruneck, who were able to celebrate a 4:2 victory and thus sent the 300 (!) fans who had travelled with them into ecstasy.
The victory tastes particularly sweet on the one hand because the wolves reacted strongly after the defeat against Fehervar On the other hand, it was also because it was the locals who led the HCP to victory. First and foremost, youngster Tommy Purdeller, who is increasingly becoming a Pusterer hero. On Saturday, he provided the assist for two goals and scored the winning goal himself. With ten points from eleven games, the 20-year-old is one of the best scorers in the league.

Two other South Tyroleans deserve special praise: Captain Raphael Andergassen led the way in an exemplary manner and scored two goals, while goalie Andy Bernard was a very reliable support in the Steffl Arena and parried 24 of the 26 shots (92,3 percent). Even when star player Jason Akeson was carried away by a completely unnecessary attack five minutes before the end and left his team with a five-minute deficit, Pustertal kept a cool head and held on to the result.
The best scenes
The first stroke | Purdeller sends his linemate Lacroix on his way, who scores 1-0 with a powerful shot under the crossbar (6th). The Viennese reaction comes in the middle third, when Donohue first hits the near post (1-1, 27th) and then Antal gets far too much space in the slot (1-2, 37th). |
The second prank | Purdeller storms alone towards goalie Linbäck, his shot bounces right to captain Andergassen, who pushes the puck over the line (39th) – 2:2. |
match penalty 1 | The 300 Pustertal fans who had travelled with the team were furious when Vienna captain Fischer made a nasty check to Mantinger's head. The Vienna captain was sent to the showers with a match penalty (43'). |
The Third Strike | Now Purdeller slips into the role of goal scorer himself. With the team in the majority, the 20-year-old directs a shot from Zanatta into the net (46'). |
match penalty 2 | Why? After a violent check by Akeson against Kemp, the Viennese player has difficulty getting back on his feet, and even the emergency doctor has to go on the ice for a short time. While Kemp goes to the locker room dazed after a few minutes, Akeson has to go off with a match penalty - and is lucky that the Pusterer survive the five-minute power play and bag the win thanks to Andergassen's empty-net goal. |
Pustertal, which is only one point behind the top 6, is now heading home. The next game is on Tuesday, when Vorarlberg visits Bruneck from 19.45:18 p.m. Table leader HC Bozen, on the other hand, will face Innsbruck on Sunday from XNUMX p.m.
