Wolves awaken from deep sleep and beat the league leader
The international break has done HC Pustertal good: After nine defeats in ten games, the Wolves made a big statement on Friday evening with a dominant victory over league leaders Fehervar.

Before the resumption of play in the ICE Hockey League, the HCP club management resorted to unusual measures to shake up the struggling team. In a written lecture The Wolves doubted "whether all players have the will to give their best for the club, the team and the fans." Harsh words, but they bore the desired fruit. The Black and Yellows showed how great their potential is in Hungary and defeated Fehervar 7:2.
If you just look at it on paper, the victory may seem sensational. On the one hand, because Fehervar has the second best defense in the league after Bozen. On the other hand, because Tommy Purdeller & Co. have recently lacked the wit they showed at the start of the season. On this evening, however, it was not apparent that the South Tyroleans had recently been in a deep crisis - quite the opposite. Jason Jaspers' team literally played the favorites into the wall, played with a lot of drive towards the goal and impressed with great coolness. Every time a big chance arose, the puck ended up in the net.

Tommy Purdeller's goal after just 16 seconds served as the initial spark for this brilliant success. This early lead gave the Wolves, who were without the services of Josh Wesley, great confidence. And so the guests remained calm even after the interim 1:2. They then steadily increased their lead and prevented the Hungarians from suffering their heaviest defeat of the season.
The highlights
Pusterer Blitzstart | Only 16 seconds have been played when Tommy Purdeller shoots after a face-off and surprises goalkeeper Rasmus Reijola. Four minutes later, Mikael Frycklund increases the lead to 2-0 with a precise shot during the power play. |
Second lightning start | Chris Brown, left completely alone in the slot, reduced the score to 1:2, but the guests came out of the locker room with a lot of speed. Purdeller first converted a follow-up shot, and a minute and a half later Jason Akeson was there with a powerful attempt. |
Wolves remain calm | After Fehervar comes back with a Cheek follow-up shot in a two-man power play, the guests remain calm: Brett Findlay – also in the power play – uses a precise Akeson cross pass, and shortly before the end of the third, Frycklund even scores to make it 6:2. |
Who hasn’t yet? | That's right, Ole Andersen. After a pass from Frycklund, who scored three points that evening, the Norwegian hammered the puck from the slot into the net with pinpoint accuracy. |
The victory will give the Wolves great confidence in their upcoming tasks. They have shown that they do not have to hide from the "big ones". The next game will take place next Thursday in Villach (19.15 p.m.).
