The former NHL professional reported at his presentation that his long-time companion Bernd Truntschka had asked him for his assessment of four coaching candidates for the DEL2 club.
"I did a good job selling them," Krupp said with a laugh. At some point, Truntschka asked, "What are you doing next year?" "It happened pretty quickly," said Krupp (59), who signed a two-year contract with Landshut a few days ago, with an option for another season. Landshut will participate in the Dolomitencup in Neumarkt in August.
Krupp wants to strengthen “Landshut as an ice hockey location”
Landshut is one of the founding clubs of the DEL. Krupp wants to bring the sixth-place team from last season back to the top. "I'm getting the opportunity to further advance this identity and mission at a traditional club like Landhut," explained Krupp, whose signing is a real coup. "I see my task as further developing Landshut as a center of ice hockey."Krupp is a star. He won the Stanley Cup twice as a player in the NHL. During a lockout season in the North American elite league, the Cologne native also played five times for the Landshut team in 1994/95.
As a coach, he managed the German national team before spending several years on the bench in the DEL for the Kölner Haie and the Eisbären Berlin. He then coached Sparta Prague and, most recently, HC Lugano in Switzerland for a few months.
