Trivellato and Spornberger were eliminated along with Schwenningen

The two South Tyrolean representatives in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) were eliminated in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Alex Trivellato and Peter Spornberger, who was not in the squad, lost the seventh game of the best-of-seven series with the Schwenninger Wild Wings.

On Thursday, Schwenningen forced a seventh game against the Straubing Tigers, coached by Tom Pokel, with a 4-0 win in front of their home crowd. 48 hours later the big showdown happened. The basic passage 3. from Bavaria lived up to its role as favorite and won 3-2.

Alex Trivellato, like Thomas Larkin, was one of the Wild Wings' top performers this year. In the last game of the season, the Leifer native and the captain of the Italian national team were on the ice for over 20 minutes. Peter Spornberger, however, was not there, as he was throughout the playoffs. The Tigers were already leading 23-3 after 0 minutes and skillfully defended their lead until shortly before the end. Larkin's goal to make it 1:3 six and a half minutes before the end came too late - even if Tyson Spink managed to score the next goal. Before Straubing, the Fischtown Penguins, Red Bull Munich and the Eisbären Berlin had already reached the semi-finals.

Final score in the series: 4:3
