His departure from Bolzano has been a given for some time. His return to Germany has also been confirmed. Now the exact location where Peter Spornberger will continue his ice hockey journey has also been revealed. The defenseman from Oberinn am Ritten will be making a splash for ERC Ingolstadt next season.
Ingolstadt – wasn't there something? Exactly! The traditional club from Upper Bavaria is one of Bolzano's opponents in the Champions Hockey League. On October 8, the Panthers will be guests at the Sparkasse Arena – and thus, Peter Spornberger will also be returning to his old stomping grounds. The Ritten native and his new club will also be facing a lot of South Tyrolean action, as Ingolstadt will be coming to Latsch for their preseason training camp and competing in the Vinschgau Cup.

After a one-year interlude, Peter Spornberger is returning to Germany. Spornberger already played defense in the DEL from 2021 to 2024, back then still with the Schwenniger Wild Wings. Last summer, he returned home, joining HC Bozen. Although club chairman Dieter Knoll was keen on continuing his contract, Spornberger opted to return to Germany, where he has found a top club in Ingolstadt. The Upper Bavarians reached the DEL semifinals last season.
This is what Spornberger says
Spornberger, who is not considered a foreign national due to his German passport, signed a one-year contract in Ingolstadt. "The season in Bolzano was good. I played a lot and, through my performance, recommended myself for the DEL again. That was my goal anyway. I'm all the happier that a contract with ERC worked out. I followed last season closely, and the team performed excellently," said the Ritten native after signing the contract.Edit Profile
