After fan riots in Bolzano: Kloten Ultras escorted to the border

After riots by supporters of the Swiss team EHC Kloten broke out in Bolzano yesterday, Saturday, the fans were escorted to the border by the state police this morning.

Late in the morning, approximately 120 Swiss fans left Bolzano in their two buses. The buses were escorted to the border by the Digos special police unit. This had been ordered by Bursar Giuseppe Ferrari in response to the events of the previous day.

After the first semifinal of the Südtirol Summer Classic on Saturday, which HC Škoda Pilsen won 3-0 against EHC Kloten, there were clashes between Swiss and Bolzano ultras. The Swiss are said to have attacked the Bolzano residents (SportNews has reported).

A police officer injured

But that's not all: As the police department announced in a press release, the Kloten fans allegedly attacked police officers that evening, throwing chairs and tables at a hotel where they were staying. One police officer was injured, and his recovery time is expected to be seven days.

All incidents were documented by law enforcement officers in Bolzano. Contact has been made with the Swiss police to identify those responsible. The rioters will subsequently be reported and banned from the stadium, according to a press release from the police station. Kloten will also play against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in Bolzano on Sunday afternoon (16 p.m.).
