Gianluca March moves to Swiss top club

Career jump for Gianluca March: The defender, who plays in Switzerland, has left EHC Winterthur and moved to a promotion candidate.

While the regular season is still in full swing here, two teams in the second Swiss league have already had to go on holiday. Among them is EHC Winterthur, where Gianluca March was under contract until a few days ago. But things are only getting serious for the Leiferer now, as he has been signed by HC La-Chaux-de-Fonds. March signed a contract until the end of the season with the reigning champions, who finished the regular season in second place and are the big favorites for the title alongside Basel.

In contrast to last year, Neuchâtel are dreaming of promotion to the National League this year. Thanks to improved finances and progress in the hall renovation, they have secured the license for the top division, reports the portal Sport.chFirst, the Eastern Swiss team, for which Steven Owre, who played in Vorarlberg last year, plays, must secure the right to promotion in the playoffs. These begin on February 11th against EHC Olten.

March learned to play ice hockey in Auer, Leifers and at HC Neumarkt. In total, he also played five seasons at HC Pustertal. In 2023, he moved to EHC Winterthur, where he played 61 games in the last two seasons. The 27-year-old is a Swiss citizen and does not burden the team's foreign quota.
