Szczecin Cup celebrates anniversary

For the quarter-century anniversary, the organizers, led by OK boss Markus Raich, are sticking to what has been tried and tested and are once again hitting the mark: around 250 enthusiastic participants - old acquaintances as well as new faces - have registered for the prestigious mountain run in the Texelgruppe Nature Park. Among them are also some top-class contenders for victory.

Many running enthusiasts have already marked the Stettiner Cup in red on their calendars months before the showdown. On the one hand, the route is a highlight: from the car park in Pfelders in the municipality of Moos in Passeier, the first five kilometers to the Lazinser Alm are quite leisurely, but then the course climbs steeply. On the narrow serpentines up to the Stettiner Hütte at 2875 meters above sea level, one or two participants pump lactate into their leg muscles. The mountain sportsmen and women can be all the more proud of themselves when they cross the finish line at the famous mountain hut. Added to this is the magnificent panorama that awaits you on the 10-kilometer mountain run in the Hinterpasseier mountains with an elevation gain of 1255 meters.

Another factor that speaks in favor of the mountain run is the after-race party that takes place after the race at the Stettiner Hütte. With its family atmosphere and outstanding organization, the Stettiner Cup has gained many regular participants. The runners quickly forget their heavy legs during the cozy get-together and there is toast, chatting and laughing until late in the evening. It is therefore no wonder that the organizers have not planned any major changes for the 25th edition. "But we can promise one thing: Unlike in previous years, there will also be live music at the after-race party at the Stettiner Hütte this year," say the organizers from the Moos mountain rescue service.

Top athletes in the Passeier Valley "The anniversary is of course something special for us too. In these 25 years we have turned the Stettiner Cup into a mountain running festival. We are proud that we can now celebrate this milestone," commented the organizing committee. Hundreds of participants have once again answered the call of the Stettiner Cup for the anniversary. Among them are also some top runners from South Tyrol and beyond in the starting field.

Samuel Demetz, who came third last year, and the Swiss ski mountaineer Flurin Wehrli - who is also a strong mountain runner - have already registered for the men's race. Also taking part is local hero Alexander Schweigl, who has not missed a single race to date. The participation of the "Grand Dame" of the South Tyrolean mountain race and five-time Stettiner Cup winner, Edeltraud Thaler, has already been confirmed for the women's race. Irene Senfter (Lana/fifth last year) and the top runner from SC Meran, Andrea Schweigkofler, will also be arriving in Pfelders at the start at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
