Szczecin Cup: Everyone is waiting for the starting signal

For hundreds of mountain runners, the wait is almost over! This Sunday, the 26th edition of the Stettiner Cup takes place in the Hinterpasseiertal Valley.

The almost 10-kilometer-long run from Pfelders to the Stettiner Hütte, with an elevation gain of 1255 meters, will once again present itself at its best.

The Stettiner Cup and its organizing team from the Moos Mountain Rescue Service in Passeier have more than succeeded in this regard in the past. This is clearly evident in the names of the participants who have already registered: Many of them are not participating for the first time, but return to Plan year after year to tackle the relatively short, approximately 10-kilometer, but very steep mountain run with a whopping 1255 meters of elevation gain, while also enjoying the relaxed, almost familial atmosphere among the participants.

"In addition to the breathtaking mountain panorama in the Hinterpasseiertal Valley, the Stettiner Cup has certainly made a name for itself with its family-friendly atmosphere. The atmosphere before, during, and especially after the race at the Stettiner Hütte is always fantastic," say the mountain rescuers from Moos in Passeier, just a few days before the 26th edition. "We're looking forward to Sunday with great confidence. Especially because the weather should be perfect – it's a bit changeable at the moment, but the forecast for Sunday is generally good."

Top athletes are expected

And that's not the only thing the organizers are happy about. Among the almost 200 participants registered so far are numerous top-class athletes from the local mountain running scene. Armin Larch is in pole position in the men's race: the Mareiter has already won the Stettiner Cup three times, and with last year's victory, he is also the defending champion. He will likely be chased by Andreas Innerebner from Sarnen, who has already achieved numerous podium finishes in the Hinterpasseiertal mountain race. However, Innerebner is still missing a win in his trophy cabinet. The same goes for Samuel Demetz from Val Gardena, who is also back in the race. Several top-class Swiss mountain runners have also announced their participation, and they are also being watched with great anticipation.

Among the women, the names Edeltraud Thaler and Irene Senfter stand out. Thaler, along with Petra Pircher, is the record winner of the Stettiner Cup, having won four times. Senfter, on the other hand, has always had to settle for second place; after several podium finishes, she too is hungry for her first triumph in the run up to the Stettiner Hütte. Other top athletes are also expected and could be there for the 10 a.m. start from the parking lot in Pfelders.
