Marcel Hirscher amazes at the Erzbergrodeo

In perfect weather conditions and with an extremely selective race track, the “mountain of iron” fought with all its might today against the 500 starters who went into the infight with the Erzberg. The toughest extreme enduro race in the world offered a spectacular backdrop for the thousands of visitors, creating a breathtaking atmosphere.

Like last year, Manuel Lettenbichler conquered the Erzberg as the fastest motorcycle pilot. At the end of the 35 km through bouldering gardens and forest climbing, the 25-year-old from Lettenbich was once again in the lead. “I managed my race quite well and am very happy about my second rock cup,” said the German KTM rider.

Lettenbichler won the infamous Hare Scramble in Styria in 2:31:15 hours, about ten minutes ahead of the Brit Billy Bolt (Husqvarna). In 2015, Lettenbichler's father Andreas won the toughest extreme enduro race in the world.

“I am very happy and surprised at myself.” Marcel Hirscher

Hirscher started his second Erzbergrodeo adventure from the second row and finished the race after a sensational 19 checkpoints. “I'm happy that I can live part of my childhood dream: to have an Erzbergrodeo starting number once in my life - and now I even have two. It's really crazy to race here. “I’m very happy and surprised at myself,” said Marcel Hirscher at the finish.

Zelger best South Tyrolean

In the end, 17 of 500 riders reached the finish – including an Italian, Sonny Goggia (12th). Maximilian Zelger was denied this feat. However, he was once again the best of the two dozen participants on his KTM. He passed the 18th checkpoint in 91st position.

The breathtaking show on the rodeo weekend was not only provided by overall winner Lettenbichler or ex-winter sports ace Hirscher, but also by countless other participants from all over the world. We have collected the best pictures here in our photo gallery.
