"I heard that I'm supposedly retiring. But I just started at Ferrari," said the 40-year-old Briton before the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. "I'm not going to give up," Hamilton emphasized. He added, in response to various media reports in Italy: "To certain people: Stop making up stories like this!"
After switching from Mercedes in the winter, Hamilton is experiencing a difficult start to his career with the Scuderia. Although he managed to cause a surprise with his sprint victory in China, things are otherwise hardly going as planned. The former perennial winner is only sixth in the Drivers' Championship, a long way behind. "I'm here for several years," Hamilton said before Sunday's race (20.00:XNUMX p.m.), emphasizing: "I have no doubts."

The seven-time champion also dismissed Italian reports about an alleged imminent dismissal of Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur and backed the Frenchman. "I fully support Fred. He's the main reason I came to Ferrari," Hamilton said. "I really enjoy working with him. I only learned about these stories here upon arrival in Canada, and I have to say, sadly, that most people have no idea what goes on behind the scenes at Ferrari."According to Hamilton, team boss Frédéric Vasseur (center) is not up for discussion. © APA/afp / ANDREJ ISAKOVIC
According to Hamilton, replacing Vasseur is not under discussion, despite mixed results from him and teammate Charles Leclerc. The motorsport superstar also warned against such a move, citing the difficulty of building a completely new team structure at the storied racing team. "No one should forget how long it takes for senior staff to get used to the job. I'm fully counting on Fred," said Hamilton, who has committed to the Maranello-based racing team for several years.
