Lando Norris races to pole position in Monaco

Lando Norris starts the Formula 1 race in Monaco from pole position.

The 25-year-old Briton set the fastest lap on the tight street circuit in 1:09,954 minutes, finishing 0,109 seconds ahead of last year's winner and local hero Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari in a thrilling showdown. World Championship leader Oscar Piastri took third place in the second McLaren.

Norris thus has a good chance of winning in Monaco for the first time on Sunday (15.00:XNUMX p.m./Sky). Overtaking is difficult on the narrow strip of asphalt in the principality, and a starting position at the front is already a big step toward another Grand Prix triumph. However, a new rule will be applied for the first time: two pit stops are mandatory for all drivers. This is intended to increase the excitement by offering more tactical options.

Before the eighth of 24 World Championship races, Piastri leads Norris in the overall standings by 13 points. World champion Max Verstappen is third, 22 points behind, having only managed fifth place in qualifying.
