Irresistible Verstappen grabs pole

After Lando Norris's sprint victory, the Briton was defeated by an irresistible Max Verstappen in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix. A Mercedes driver completed the top three.

After his sprint disaster, Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen raced to pole position for the Miami Grand Prix. The new father of a daughter narrowly beat Lando Norris in the McLaren to second place.

For Verstappen, who had only finished 17th in the sprint after a time penalty, it was his third pole of the season and his 43rd overall. Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli finished third, just ahead of championship leader Oscar Piastri in the second McLaren.

Verstappen satisfied, Hamilton disappointed

"It was a great qualifying session. We were able to improve the car again," summarized Red Bull driver Verstappen. "I was able to get the car around the corners better and better as the session went on."

Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, finished the qualifying session shaking his head. After finishing third in the sprint, the Ferrari star's upswing didn't continue. He was eliminated in the second knockout round, finishing twelfth.
