Vasseur has been in charge of the Maranello-based Formula 1 racing team for two and a half years. His tenure so far has seen the spectacular signing of record world champion Lewis Hamilton.
"Today we want to acknowledge what has already been achieved and commit ourselves to the future goals," said Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna in a statement before this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. "This reflects our confidence in Fred's leadership, a confidence based on shared ambitions, mutual expectations, and clear accountability." Vasseur expressed his gratitude. "This renewal is not just a confirmation—it is a challenge to keep moving forward, stay focused, and deliver results," said the 57-year-old.
Hamilton scatters roses for Vasseur
From a sporting perspective, however, even with the Briton, the team hasn't yet been able to initiate the long-awaited turnaround. Hamilton and Monaco's Charles Leclerc are still winless this season. However, Hamilton is a strong supporter of Vasseur. "I love working with Fred. Fred is the main reason I'm in this team. I believe Fred is the person who can take us to the top," the 105-time Grand Prix winner praised the team principal.Vasseur, according to the automaker's management, has laid a solid foundation for Ferrari's return to the top of Formula 1. Nevertheless, there have been repeated rumors recently about the ouster of the former Sauber team boss.
