Marc Marquez takes sprint victory and World Championship lead

Motorcycle star Marc Marquez snatched victory in the sprint race of the Indonesian Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion thus took over the lead in the World Championship standings from his fellow Spaniard Jorge Martin.

Marquez prevailed on the Mandalika International Street Circuit on the island of Lombok ahead of Japan's Ai Ogura on Aprilia and his Ducati brand colleague Fabio Di Giannantonio from Italy.

Jorge Martin finished fourth, having led the sprint finish but experiencing problems with his Aprilia in the second half of the race. World Championship third-place finisher Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez, who started from pole position for the first time, collided in the first corner and retired from the race.

With his eighth sprint victory of the season, Marc Marquez has reclaimed the lead in the World Championship standings. Ahead of Sunday's Grand Prix, the 33-year-old holds a four-point advantage over Martin.
