The sensation fails to materialise: Gambaro has no chance in the mixed doubles

Barbara Gambaro from Schlanders (32) opened the Olympic Games in Paris on Saturday morning from a South Tyrolean perspective. The sports shooter competed in the mixed competition with Danilo Sollazzo, but was unable to take part in the battle for the medals.

28 couples took part in the qualification of the mixed competition on Saturday morning. Each couple had 30 minutes to fire 30 shots with the air rifle. Only the best four couples after this qualification competed for medals. Gambaro and Sollazzo were not among them. The South Tyrolean and the Lombardy native finished in 4th place with 625,4 points.

“The form of the day will decide. Of course, the performance of both has to be right. Anything is possible,” the Vinschgerin said before the competition. The duo showed that they definitely have the potential to be at the top. In the second series, for example, they scored a strong 209,4 points. However, only 208,0 points in series 1 and 3 dashed all hopes of a medal.

China in a class of its own

The gold medal was won by China (Yuting Huang and Lihao Sheng), who prevailed against Jihyeon Keum and Hajun Park from South Korea. In the battle for the bronze medal, the Kazakhs Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev duelled with the Germans Anna Janssen and Maximilian Ulbrich, with the Asians grabbing the precious metal.
