The South Tyrol team is ready.

Young archers on a title mission in Merano

The third weekend in June is a special date in two respects. For thousands of children and young people, it's not only the start of their well-deserved summer vacation; on Saturday, June 14th and Sunday, June 15th, the national final of the "Trofeo Pinocchio," the Italian Children's and Youth Archery Championship, will also take place. For the first time, the two-day sporting event will be held in the Passiria town of Merano.

Around 300 archery talents from across Italy will compete for titles in the Olympic Recurve and Compound disciplines at the "Combi" sports field. The youth competitions are organized by the Archery Section of the Merano Sports Club, which is actively supported by the archery clubs of Bolzano, Laives, Caldaro, Bressanone, Campo di Trens, and Brunico, as well as the South Tyrol Regional Committee.

"We've put in a lot of effort over the past few weeks and months and laid a solid foundation for what we hope will be a smooth run of the championships," said section leader and organizing committee head Aljoscha Kienzl, praising his team's work. "There's still an intense period ahead of us, but we're really looking forward to a fantastic sporting event."

Finale “derhuam”

South Tyrol’s archery talents ready for the “derhuam” final
A total of 20 delegations from across Italy will compete in the "Trofeo Pinocchio," one of which, of course, comes from South Tyrol. Fifteen boys and girls born between 15 and 2016 secured the highly coveted tickets to participate in the final round in a qualifying tournament on May 2012st.

The President of the FITARCO National Committee, Daniela Bighignoli, is proud of the work accomplished: "A special thank you goes to the coaches who dedicate themselves daily to supporting young talent. The hard work and dedication of our protégés is the greatest reward and allows us to field a full delegation this year."

Olympian Mauro Nespoli and Vanessa Landi as special guests
The SCM archery section is also pleased to announce a special highlight. Olympian Mauro Nespoli and his partner Vanessa Landi, a member of the Italian national team, will attend the event as special guests. Nespoli is 37 years old and hails from Voghera. He is a three-time Olympic medalist and has been a fixture on Italy's national team for many years.

Vanessa Landi, 27, has also achieved significant success in her sporting career, including winning the bronze medal alongside Nespoli at the 2019 World Championships in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
