By bike into the Altfasstal
Around Maranza, a valley opens up that's perfect for anyone who wants to combine mountain biking with enjoyment and nature. The Altfasstal Valley isn't a place for records, but rather for conscious travel. Here, it's not the elevation gain that counts, but the views – not the speed, but the feeling of being in tune with the rhythm of the mountains.

Escape from everyday life on two wheels
The tour starts at the Altfasstal parking lot, above the village of Meransen at approximately 1.600 meters. From the outset, it's clear: this tour isn't overwhelming; it's an opener. A short warm-up leads gently downhill to a rushing stream, then begins a steady, moderate climb into the heart of the valley. Two shorter steep sections provide variety but are easily manageable—even for beginners or families with some fitness.
The valley itself is a scenic gem: gentle slopes, sparse forests, and crystal-clear air. To the left and right, striking mountains like the Fallmetzer and Gurnatsch rise up—silent companions along the trail. The view continually expands, and with every step, inner peace returns. Here, nature dominates, not your heart rate.
Two huts – double the enjoyment
After about five kilometers, the valley opens up. At the upper end, two places to stop for a break: the Pranterstadlhütte and the Wieserhütte mountain refuge. Both huts are idyllically situated between alpine meadows and rocks, offering regional specialties and a sun terrace perfect for a longer rest.Whether it's a hot soup, a Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancake), or a cold drink – everything tastes better here. And those seeking the tranquility of the mountains will find it on these terraces.
If you want to go further, you can climb higher
Ambitious nature lovers can extend the tour: park their bikes safely at the hut and continue on foot toward the Seefeld Lakes – a group of crystal-clear mountain lakes at over 2.200 meters. Those still feeling energetic can climb from there to the Seefeldspitze (2.715 meters). The panoramic view from the summit is impressive – stretching far into the Zillertal Alps. The return journey: relaxed back to the valley
The return journey follows the familiar route – but with a completely new perspective. The gentle descent allows you to experience the landscape from a different perspective, enjoy the light on the mountains, and reflect on the day.Getting there is also straightforward: From Mühlbach, a regular bus (No. 413) conveniently takes guests to Maranza. From there, it's just a few minutes to the start of the tour.
With a total length of just over 10 kilometers and around 280 meters of ascent and descent, this tour is ideal for leisurely bikers, active families, and nature lovers who aren't looking for a technical challenge but want to experience the tranquility of the mountains - on two wheels.
