“Jannik, are you really only 23 years old?”

For the first time since Jannik Sinner's suspension was announced, his coach Darren Cahill has spoken out - and told an interesting anecdote that once again shows the mental strength of the Sextner.

Almost every player has commented on Jannik Sinner's suspension. Only a few, such as Christopher Eubanks, Jack Draper or Casper Ruud, assured the South Tyrolean of their support. Others spoke of favoritism, lack of transparency or even resorted to personal attacks well below the belt. Sinner never once reacted to these accusations and provocations. Instead, he always found the right answer on the pitch. His coach Darren Cahill has now revealed the approach the world number one is taking.

“We in the team have talked about the noises coming from the players, the coaches and the media,” said the Australian coach in an interview with Tennis Insider Club. "He came up to me and said, 'Don't worry about criticism from someone you wouldn't take advice from.' I looked at him and asked if he was really only 23 years old?" said a baffled Cahill. The Australian was so impressed by his maturity that he knew that this chapter was closed for Sinner.

The Sextner has now returned to his adopted home of Monte Carlo after a trip to Fashion Week in Milan. As can be seen on social media, Sinner met Dominic Thiem for dinner in recent days. However, the South Tyrolean cannot train with the Austrian, who has since retired, as Thiem is still registered with the local tennis association.
