Boris Becker, John McEnroe or Magnus Norman? Since Jannik Sinner announced in Melbourne that he would consult a prominent expert, the tennis scene wondered who would be chosen. For months, the Sesto native, who in the meantime separated from tennis foster father Riccardo Piatti and his entourage, kept his fans in the dark. As several media outlets have now reported unanimously, the new tennis guru on Sinner's side is called Darren Cahill. The Australian is supposed to shape the 20-year-old into a champion together with his coach Simone Vagnozzi.

Cahill is a dazzling figure in tennis: As an excellent professional, the 56-year-old reached one Grand Slam semi-final in his career, namely that at the US Open in 1988. However, the man from Adelaide celebrated significantly greater success as a coach: a certain Lleyton Hewitt led him to the top of the world rankings, and he also had a highly successful collaboration with Andre Agassi. In recent years, Cahill has been primarily active as coach of Simona Halep, who won two Grand Slam titles under his leadership. Most recently, he briefly looked after the American young hopeful Amanda Anisimova before resigning from this position due to “mental exhaustion”. Healthy and motivated As Cahill announced on social media these days, he is now full of energy again: “Back to work, I can hardly wait,” wrote the Australian: “I am healthy again, rested and looking forward to what lies ahead lies to me. A big thank you to my doctors, my wonderful family and close friends who took care of me, and to everyone who reached out to me over the last four months.”

The collaboration between Sinner and Cahill is said to have started this week, an official confirmation from the Sinner clan is still pending. It is therefore uncertain whether a test phase is planned or whether the cooperation is permanent.
