“A sad day”: Violent attack against Sinner

On Saturday it was announced that Jannik Sinner would be banned for three months. The attacks from his chief critic were not long in coming.

Nick Kyrgios has been in the spotlight again and again in recent months. Not because the Australian has caused a sensation on the tennis court, but rather because he has launched one attack after another against Jannik Sinner. After it became known that the young South Tyrolean was involved in a doping case, Kyrgios didn't miss an opportunity to hit him.

When it became public on Saturday that Sinner had contacted the World Anti-Doping Agency to a three-month ban However, it did not take long for Kyrgios to speak out.

“Fairness in tennis does not exist.” Nick Kyrgios

"To the future generations of tennis," he begins his post on social media: "After today, you can dope 'without knowing it'. Test positive, continue playing despite the investigation, then agree to a three-month ban without having to give up prize money or titles. And then just carry on. It's a sad day for me, for someone who has been playing this sport since he was seven years old."

Kyrgios followed up on Twitter: "So WADA said there would be a one to two year ban. Obviously Sinner's team did everything in their power to just get a three month ban - no titles lost, no prize money lost. Guilty or not? A sad day for tennis. Fairness in tennis does not exist."

Wawrinka criticizes, López defends

In addition to Kyrgios, former Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka also spoke out. "I no longer believe in clean sport," the Swiss wrote on Twitter. He received a response from Feliciano López. The former number 12 in the world defended Sinner.

"It has been proven that he (Jannik Sinner) did nothing to improve his performance. He takes full responsibility for the mistakes of others and is banned for three months. Would a longer ban have made the sport cleaner? I don't think so," said the Spaniard. In any case, the Sinner doping case will continue to occupy the tennis world.
