Miami: Djokovic dreams, the sensational woman fails

Tennis outsider Alexandra Eala's surprising winning streak at the Miami tournament has ended.

The 140th-ranked player from the Philippines lost in the semifinals to American Jessica Pegula 6:7 (3:7), 7:5, 3:6. The 19-year-old Eala had defeated, among others, world number two Iga Swiatek, Australian Open champion Madison Keys, and former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko during the WTA tournament.

In the final on Sunday, Pegula will face world number one Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian won her semifinal against Italian Jasmine Paolini by a decisive 6-2, 6-2.

In the men's singles, Novak Djokovic prevailed against US-born Sebastian Korda. The winner of 24 Grand Slam titles won his quarterfinal at the Masters 1000 tournament 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in just under an hour and a half. Should Djokovic triumph at the tournament in Florida for the seventh time, the 37-year-old Serb would also celebrate the 100th title of his career.
