The big star in Merano: A lot of fuss about Jannik Sinner

The magnificent Sporthilfe Gala is currently taking place in Merano – and right in the middle of it all is South Tyrol's biggest superstar: Jannik Sinner. He caused a stir on the Passer promenade.

Will he come or won't he? That was the predominant question in the run-up to the Sporthilfe Gala in Merano, where the 2024 Sportsmen of the Year will be crowned. The question was Jannik Sinner. Shortly after 19 p.m., the answer was confirmed when the world's best tennis player arrived at the thermal hotel and greeted the guests with a brief "Hello."

Sinner immediately attracted everyone's attention. Celebrities from sports, business, and politics took the opportunity to shake the Sesto native's hand and snap a selfie or two. As the world number one tennis player entered the Kurhaus a short time later, even a few passersby on the Passer promenade were able to catch a glimpse of the sports gala's star guest.

Sinner was in a great mood, signed autographs and then disappeared into the Kurhaus – and of course Sinner was the center of attention there too. He was named South Tyrol's Sportsman of the Year. Evelin Lanthaler won the women's award.
