The next setback for tennis rebel Nick Kyrgios

Last week, it was announced that Nick Kyrgios would not be able to compete at Wimbledon. Now the Australian has to accept more bad news.

"I see him as a social media star who plays tennis every now and then," Boris Becker said of Nick Kyrgios earlier this year. "That's his business model; he needs the public." But it is precisely this stage that the 30-year-old is now losing. While in recent years he has repeatedly appeared as a TV expert at the Grand Slams for broadcasters such as with the BBC or ESPN Kyrgios will be missed at Wimbledon – both on and off the court.

Wie die with the BBC As announced by the broadcaster, Kyrgios will not be part of the expert team at Church Road this year. This is a response to the harsh criticism he received last year. The reason: Kyrgios pleaded guilty in 2023 to injuring his former girlfriend Chiara Passari in an argument. However, the tennis star was not convicted because Judge Beth Campbell declared that he "acted badly in the heat of the moment" and that the case fell "at the lower end of the assault scale."

BBC gives in

Nevertheless, British state television faced harsh criticism. Caroline Nokes, Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom, said: “This is a disgrace and shows the utter contempt our public broadcaster has for women.” To prevent similar reactions this year, the with the BBC now from a commitment.

"I've suffered a minor setback in my rehabilitation and unfortunately won't be able to make it back in time for the grass season. I know how much you've all been looking forward to seeing me there, and I'm truly sorry to disappoint you. However, this is only a minor hurdle, and I'm already working hard to come back stronger than ever."
