Crazy idea: Will Jannik Sinner soon play in South Tyrol?

Jannik Sinner is the superstar in Italy. Now there is a crazy idea: will the Sexten world number one soon play in front of a South Tyrolean audience?

Two Grand Slam titles, number 1 in the world, triumph at the ATP Finals - and then another victory with Italy's Davis Cup team. Jannik Sinner has finally conquered the hearts of tennis fans in Italy this year and triggered a real hype in the boot-shaped country. The enthusiasm that prevailed during the ATP Finals in Turin was enormous.

Now there is more good news for Sinner fans: In the next three years - from 2025 to 2027 - the Davis Cup finals will take place in the boot-shaped country. In 2025, the battle for the "ugliest salad bowl in the world" will take place in Bologna - and the following year in Bolzano?

The idea of the association head

Sounds like a crazy plan, but apparently it is not out of the question. As the news agency HANDLE reported that Italy's tennis association chief Angelo Binaghi had expressed the idea of bringing the Final 8 tournament to South Tyrol, Sinner's homeland.

At the moment, however, that seems hard to imagine. The only possible venue would be the Sparkasse Arena – the home ground of HC Bozen. It seems unlikely that a stadium with a capacity of “only” 7.800 spectators would be sufficient for a Davis Cup final. Nevertheless, it would be a dream for many South Tyroleans if their Jannik were to play practically on their doorstep.
