World ranking: Sinner's meteoric rise

From a sporting perspective, Jannik Sinner has had a truly dream year. We take a quick look back at Sinner's season based on the world rankings and present the final ranking.

At the end of the year, Sinner is almost 4.000 points ahead of Alexander Zverev in the world rankings - that's the equivalent of almost two Grand Slam victories. Of course: In 2025, the Sextner, who took the lead for the first time on June 10, 2024, will have to defend more points than ever before. But in this form, Sinner is capable of anything. If it weren't for the dark doping cloud that hovers over the young Pustertal native.

Skeptics, but also some experts, fear that Sinner could be banned for several months after the Australian Open and would therefore need the big lead in the world rankings. Whatever the case, Sinner began the year in fourth place, almost 5.000 points behind Djokovic. The tables have turned dramatically since then. A year ago, Zverev was only seventh. Daniil Medvedev, on the other hand, lost two places and Djokovic lost six.

Last effort Davis Cup

Sinner is currently in Malaga, where he will play for Italy against Argentina in the Davis Cup starting Thursday. The Azzurri will play against the Argentinians from 17 p.m. The line-up of the defending champions and the South Americans is not yet known and will only be finalized a few minutes before the start of the game. If Italy advances, they will play the USA or Australia in the semi-finals on Saturday from 13 p.m. The Davis Cup final will then take place on Sunday from 16 p.m.
