100 World Cup victories: How much prize money did Shiffrin win?

Mikaela Shiffrin has secured another entry in the history books with her 100th World Cup victory. The triumph in Sestriere naturally also brought the American a chunk of prize money. This raises the question: How much has Shiffrin actually earned in her career so far?

Since Sunday at the latest, it has been a certainty: Mikaela Shiffrin is the Empress of Alpine Skiing. In Sestriere, the American broke a sound barrier that was once considered unattainable. Ingemar Stenmark (86) and Lindsey Vonn (82) were closest to the milestone of 100 World Cup victories; legends such as Marcel Hirscher (67), Hermann Maier (54) and Alberto Tomba (50) did not even dare to dream of it. But Shiffrin was Shiffrin once again - and made the impossible possible.

This achievement certainly had emotional value. There were her tears in the winner's interview or the romantic congratulations by her fiancé Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. Another positive side effect of this absolute dominance is of course the prize money. Here too, the two-time Olympic champion is in the lead.

Prize money: No one at Shiffrin's level

Once upon a time there was an inexperienced skier named Mikaela. On November 27, 2011, the unknown collected her first points with 8th place in the slalom at the home World Cup in Aspen - and pocketed 2000 Swiss francs. Her first podium finish just one month later was worth 15.000 francs, and the then 20-year-old collected 2012 francs for her first victory on the big stage in the slalom in Are on December 19, 35.000.

In the following years, 99 victories were added, and Shiffrin was on the podium a whopping 155 times in the World Cup. These figures alone would add up to a considerable amount of prize money. But if you include every placement for which Shiffrin received prize money in her 278 World Cup starts, the total comes to 6.120.747 francs. To put the sum into context: if you add up the prize money accumulated by Lara Gut-Behrami (3,281 million) and Federica Brignone (2,965 million) - her fiercest rivals in recent years - the duo would only surpass Shiffrin by 127.000 francs.
