100th victory! Shiffrin makes the milestone perfect

Mikaela Shiffrin has reached a milestone in skiing history. On Sunday, the American celebrated her 100th World Cup victory in Sestriere.

Mikaela Shiffrin's already impressive career has another chapter. On Sunday she celebrated her 100th victory in the slalom in Sestriere - something that has never happened before in the Ski World Cup. Shiffrin has once again made history.

The Sestriere weekend has been pretty modest for Shiffrin so far. After the low point on Saturday when she did not qualify for the second run of the giant slalom, she hit back just 2 hours later. After setting the fastest time in the first run, Shiffrin also gave her competitors no chance in the final. She took her 24th World Cup victory with a lead of 1 hundredths.

Swedish Öhlund with sensational ride

Zrinka Ljutic (CRO) and third-placed Paula Moltzan (USA) had no choice but to congratulate Shiffrin on her superior victory. Moltzan herself pushed the Austrian Katharina Liensberger (2th) off the podium in the second run.

The sensational woman in the second round was Cornelia Öhlund from Sweden. Thanks to an outstanding run (including the fastest time) she gained 2 places. This moved her up from 18th to 24th place.

There was little to be gained for the Azzurre, however. Marta Rossetti lost 2 places in the 2nd round and finished the Sestriere weekend in 16th place. Martina Peterlini (19th) and Lara Della Mea (21st) also picked up a few World Cup points.
