After 277 days: Marcel Hirscher is back

In December of last year, Marcel Hirscher tore his cruciate ligament while training at Reiteralm. Now the 36-year-old has returned.

277 days—just over nine months—after his serious knee injury, Hirscher made his comeback on the snow. He did so at the Zoetermeer indoor ski slope in the Netherlands—his second home, where he has competed since his comeback in October 2024.

Back then, Hirscher immediately attracted attention with a 23rd place finish in Sölden. The Salzburg native had been out of the competition for five years. But just a short time later, Hirscher was set back by his first serious injury. Now, once again in his career, he's demonstrating what this powerhouse is made of. After all, giving up is a foreign concept to Hirscher.

The approximately 210-meter-long arena, located just 50 km from Amsterdam, offered ideal conditions: consistent snow conditions and full slope availability. He was accompanied by his Van Deer team—and, of course, his father, Ferdinand, was there too. "Nine months ago, I was at rock bottom. It was a tough break, but also a valuable learning experience," explained Hirscher, whose knee showed no adverse reactions. Now the eight-time overall World Cup winner is aiming for the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina.
