Back in the snow: Lindsey Vonn trains like before

Lindsey Vonn not only celebrated her 41st birthday on October 18th – she also began a new chapter. Between red carpets, training camps in South Tyrol and Chile, and preparations for the 2026 Olympic Games, she shows that age is not a limit. It's motivation.

On October 18, Lindsey Vonn celebrated her 41st birthday—not with a quiet break, but on the red carpet of the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles. She was there with her dogs, a sparkling 41-carat diamond necklace, and a makeup-free selfie. "No Botox, no fillers, no filters, no surgery. This is 41," she wrote on Instagram. Vonn is proud of her age—and of the journey she's taken in the past few months.

The Olympic champion also worked her way back into the sporting spotlight last year. After years of injuries, surgeries, and setbacks, Vonn returned to the World Cup last season – in a discipline where every hundredth of a second counts.

Spring training in Ulten – for the first time in years

Vonn laid the groundwork for her return last spring. In Ulten, in the Schwemmalm region of South Tyrol, she says she completed her first structured spring training camp in over a decade—made possible by her improved physical condition following a titanium knee implant.

"I haven't been able to do spring camp in over ten years," Vonn said. She used the time to hone her technique and test new equipment. She also worked hard in the weight room, with the goal of returning to the performance level of her earlier days.

Altitude and hardness: training camp in Chile

In the summer, she continued on to La Parva in Chile – a classic training location for the world's elite alpine skiers. There, Vonn trained with the US team in challenging conditions at an altitude of over 2.700 meters. She was supported by Aksel Lund Svindal, two-time Olympic champion and longtime companion, who accompanied her as her coach.

The days in Chile were perfectly scheduled: early morning exercise, ski training, strength training, ice baths in a glacial lake, and video analysis until late into the evening. For Vonn, it was a structured, professional camp – with a clear goal: to become more consistent, build confidence, and return to the top of the world.

The World Cup is back – and so is Vonn

Although Vonn, as expected, is skipping the giant slalom in Sölden—as a speed specialist, she won't return until later in the season—her path back to the racing circuit has long been paved. She had already competed in her first races last season and collected important points. Now it's all about regularly challenging for podium finishes again.

Her long-term goal remains unchanged: one last major appearance at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. There, she wants to show that discipline, patience, and self-belief pay off—even when you're already considered a legend.
