Federica Brignone wins the Super-G in Norway

This Sunday, the women's speed weekend in Kvitfjell (Norway) was concluded with a Super-G. The Azzurre had a lot of reason to celebrate: Federica Brignone took the win and Sofia Goggia came third.

The World Cup weekend in Kvitfjell has not gone well for Italy's speed ladies so far and as a result the Azzurre have missed a podium place in Norway. The spell was broken in today's Super-G: Federica Brignone triumphed and Sofia Goggia came third. Thanks to the victory, the giant slalom world champion has extended her lead in the overall World Cup.

For Federica Brignone, it was the second Super-G victory this winter. The 34-year-old drove an extremely aggressive race with a very tight line and narrowly beat her closest competitors. Second place went to Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami (+0,06 hundredths) ahead of Sofia Goggia (+0,09). For Brignone, it was the 80th podium finish in her career, while Goggia celebrated her 60th podium finish.

Very difficult middle section

On a tricky, difficult course, no runner reached the finish without making any mistakes. The middle section was particularly difficult for the runners. Winner Brignone had a hard time there, but was still faster than her competitors. Numerous runners such as Alice Robinson (4th place), Corinne Suter (15th place) and Cornelia Hütter (23rd place) kept up very well with the Azzurra in the first section of the course, but then lost a lot of time in the middle section.

In addition to Alice Robinson, local hero Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (5th place) and Ester Ledecká (6th place) showed a respectable performance. Lindsey Vonn was just as strong. The American kept her deficit to Brignone at a tenth for a long time before she made a mistake in the middle section. In the end, she finished 16th. The German Emma Aicher, who won the downhill the day before, was eliminated.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, Nicole Delago finished the race in 28th place (+2,37 seconds). Her sister Nadia finished 33rd (+2,61 seconds) and Vicky Bernardi finished 39th (+2,83)
