Stefano Gross has crowned himself Italian slalom champion at the end of his career.

Gross ends his career with the Italian championship title

It's been clear for some time now that Stefano Gross will end his career after the current season. Now, the slalom specialist has clinched a gold medal at the Italian Championships in Val di Fassa, thus ensuring a worthy farewell – but not on his own.

Gross will have to share the Italian championship title with Tommaso Saccardi in his final appearance. In this case, however, the saying "a joy shared is a joy doubled" seems to hold true. Curiously, Gross and Saccardi were already exactly the same speed in the first run – but they "only" finished in sixth place.

Behind the two gold medalists, there's also reason for celebration from the South Tyrolean perspective. Hannes Zingerle secured third place, a mere three hundredths of a second behind. The second-best South Tyrolean was Simon Maurberger in fifth place (+3).

Rossetti wins the women's event

The women's ski competition also concluded the Italian Championships in Val di Fassa with the slalom on Saturday. Marta Rossetti secured the gold medal. Lara Della Mea (+0,25) and Martina Peterlini (+0,49) took the podium places.

Laura Steinmair missed bronze by 2 hundredths of a second, having to settle for fourth place. Vera Tschurtschenthaler (4th) was the second South Tyrolean to finish in the top 7.
